Small Town Charm

Henderson, Tennessee is a small town that is full of charm and has an atmosphere of Southern hospitality. If you’re looking to get off campus for a little bit, there are a variety of ways to enjoy yourself. Whether it’s walking down the street to grab a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants or driving down the road to grab some of the town’s famous barbecue, you’ll always find something to satisfy your appetite.

On the weekends, students may head up the road to Jackson, one of the larger cities in Tennessee. There, students can find a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, movies, bowling, and a variety of other activities. For those students looking to travel, there are a variety of sports, concerts, and activities in both Nashville and Memphis which are within a two-hour drive. While there’s plenty of things to do on campus, you’ll also find a variety of options in Henderson and the surrounding area.

Events

Arts in the Alley

The Henderson Arts Commission sponsors Arts in the Alley the first Thursday of each month in the late spring, summer, and early fall months. Located downtown, Arts in the Alley vendors sell everything from handmade crafts, decor and artwork to soap, while area musicians are also invited to perform and entertain visitors. Food is provided from local vendors. If you’re in town for one of these events, be sure to stop by and check out the local talent that Henderson has to offer.

BBQ Festival

The Chester County BBQ Festival in Henderson is the most delicious, annual event that you’ll ever attend. The main feature of the festival is the barbecue pit where workers prepare pulled pork sandwiches, smoked chickens, and ribs. Food trucks are set up to provide delicious fried sweets like funnel cakes, fried pies, fried Oreos and fried Twinkies. Exhibits for arts and craft vendors are set up, and a stage is set up for talent shows, concerts and performances from local musicians. Make plans to be in Henderson during September to enjoy everything the Barbecue Festival has to offer.

Area Dining

Henderson, Tennessee offers a wide variety of restaurants. Outside of your typical fast food options, Henderson offers a substantial list of locally owned favorites.

For the best burger in West, TN head to Bell’s Drive-In or for a nice sit-down meal, drive down to Snookum’s Steakhouse, a family owned and operated restaurant serving steaks, chicken, shrimp and pork chops.

China King and Mexican restaurants such as Los Portales or El Ranchito provide international flavor to the community.

Whether you’re grabbing a giant cinnamon roll and coffee at the Main Street Cafe, a BBQ plate at Jack’s Creek BBQ, or a gallon of sweet tea at Chow Wagon, there are plenty of options to curb any appetite.
